The Buyback: Why My Boxes Actually Cost $3
Everyone else sells you a box and that’s the end of it. You pay $5.50 or $6, you move, and then you’ve got a garage full of cardboard you have to get rid of yourself.
I sell you a brand new double-wall tea chest for $4. When you’re done, I buy it back for $1, cash or PayID. For 30 boxes on a 3-bedroom move that’s $120 out and $30 back — $90 all up, against $174.60 at the big hardware chains.
The boxes go back out to the next family instead of into landfill, and I get the supply I need. It works for both of us.

Where to Buy Moving Boxes on the Gold Coast
There are four ways to get moving boxes on the Gold Coast, and they’re not equal.
Buy them from me. Order online any time, or pick up from Parkwood 7 days a week — I’m central, near the Gold Coast University Hospital, and I’ll load your car. Delivery is a flat $30 anywhere on the Coast, Monday to Friday, same day if you order before 1pm. Tea chests are $4 and I buy them back at $1.
The big hardware and office chains. Convenient if you’re already there, and open long hours. You’ll pay $4.90 to $6 a tea chest, there’s no buyback, and you’re carrying them across a car park. (Prices checked August 2026.)
Storage yards. They sell boxes to their own customers at retail. Fine if you’re already renting a unit there; expensive if you’re not.
Free boxes. Supermarkets, bottle shops and buy-nothing groups. Genuinely free, but they’re mixed sizes, they don’t stack, and you’ll spend a few evenings collecting enough. Worth it if your time is cheaper than your money. Where to find free moving boxes.
Common Questions
How many boxes will I need?
Rough guide: studio 10–15, one bedroom 15–20, two bedroom 20–25, three bedroom 25–40, four bedroom 40–60. People almost always underestimate the kitchen. If you’re between sizes, go up — spare boxes come straight back to me at $1 each, so there’s no downside to having a few extra.
Why are your new boxes cheaper than everyone else’s?
Mine come direct from the manufacturer in Brisbane and I store them myself rather than going through a distributor. It’s the same double-wall tea chest the removalists use, without a chain’s name printed on the side and without the markup that pays for it.
Do you really buy the boxes back?
Yes — $1 per tea chest in good condition, paid cash or PayID on the spot. You don’t even have to have bought them from me. Full details are on the buyback page.
Are the used boxes any good?
I sort every one and reject anything crushed, cut, damp or dirty. They’re not pretty, but they’re structurally sound and they’ll do a move. Stock changes constantly, so call before travelling. Sizes and prices are on the used moving boxes page.
